Concept Light Weight Sandrail
Light weight, 2 person, mid-engine was part of the goal to this concept. It needed to have 30in ground clearance and no trailing frame work.
I started with a Wankel engine and based the frame around that. But ultimately ended with a standard 4-cyl for parts availability. With trailing arm rear end, I am able to get a lot more travel without affecting the length of the driveshaft through the travel of the suspension. The front arms are single A-arm design as the camber is not much of an issue in sand. Hydraulic steering was chosen to eliminate a crowded foot box.
